Health Medicine and Glyconutrition The Future Isn t What it Used to Be

Monday, 7 September 2009

This is what they call "Hope"?

We've all gotten used to the idea that certain maladies will be around for a while…like until the Second Coming. Maladies such as cancer
heart disease
diabetes
arthritis…and many more are expected to be around
in epidemic proportions
longer than we think we will be alive…and anyone who tries to tell us otherwise is looked upon with real skepticism. In fact
when anyone tries to tell us "there's hope" for such maladies as
say
diabetes
we are more likely to believe that the person is trying to sell us something…and usually we are right.

But
what's even worse is the fact that the "hope" we do receive is usually something like the following:

Studies show people at high risk for type 2 diabetes can prevent or delay the onset of the disease by losing 5 to 7 percent of their body weight. You can do it by eating healthier and getting 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week. In other words: you don't have to knock yourself out to prevent diabetes. The key is: small steps that lead to big rewards. Learn more about your risk for developing type 2 diabetes and the small steps you can take to delay or prevent the disease and live a long
healthy life.

Of course
this is good advice. No denying it. As a medical doctor
I had to dispense advice like this for years
for diabetes and other conditions. Funny
as good as it is
I NEVER saw anyone become ecstatic
do cartwheels or celebrate because they had just received such counsel. Why? BECAUSE WHAT WE REALLY WANT FROM THE MEDICAL WORLD IS A CURE!

And why not? It just doesn't seem fair that the only real answer to conditions like diabetes or obesity is the "hope" that we stop eating almost everything we enjoy
sweat till we drop
pop
prescription pills 'till we're bloated
and think positive…forever.

A new future?

So
of course
I was skeptical too when I began to hear the claims associated with glyconutrition. As a long time medical professional and scientist
I know that "claims" are easily made… And who ever heard of "glyconutrition" anyway?

In 1999
the Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to Dr. Gunter Blobel for his work in the science of Glycobiology (the biology of glyconutrition). Out of the last eight Nobel Prizes awarded in medicine
four Nobel Prizes have been awarded for discoveries made in this ONE field. Believe it or not
this field (glyconutrition) affects maladies such as diabetes
cancer and heart disease directly. Why? Because
eight sugars have been isolated for their support of the immune system and cell communication. Additionally
human life cannot be supported without them.
This information got my attention. When a single Nobel Prize is won in medicine
everyone is paying attention. When four of them are won in the SAME field
as in this case involving glyconutrition
the medical world is "on fire" with the news.

As that information made its way through the medical world
other issues made the news too. For decades the American Medical Association
the powerhouse of medical professionals
taught that nutritional supplements were not necessary for good health. But
in June 2002
the AMA admitted that nutritional supplementation was vital to good health and helpful in treating diseases.

Also
the prestigious MIT published its findings. It wrote that these "sugars" were one of ten technologies it believed would change the world in the next decade. Nutritional supplementation was again vital to the conventional medical world…and at the center of the storm was glyconutrition.

But
what really jolted me professionally was this: Until these discoveries
scientists had NO idea how the cells of your body could tell the antibodies of your body you had an infection and that they had to "get on over here" to deal with it. Until these discoveries
scientists had NO idea how the cells of your body told the rest of your body that they needed nutrition
oxygen
waste elimination
infections healed…and a thousand and one other necessary functions of every cell. Goodness! We in the scientific world hadn't known just exactly HOW even aspirin made its way to that nasty headache of yours. We just knew it worked. So
we prescribed it.

Sugar? Say it ain't so
doc!

But
my attention was riveted to the news that scientists like Dr. Gunter Blobel had discovered what it was that let the cells COMMUNICATE with the other systems of the body. And would you believe it? What he found was amazing. Sugar…SUGAR! (Glyco = Greek for "sugar") No…not table sugar (else diabetics wouldn't be so excited over this new-found help for their diabetes). There are over 200 sugars in nature but
eight of them are VITAL to our good health. In fact
eight of them are the glyconutrition "backbone" for helping the body prevent or heal:

" auto-immune diseases such as diabetes
psoriasis
" overactive immune disorders such as allergies and asthma
" under active immune disorders such as cancer
TB
strep
" inflammatory disorders such as colitis
ulcers
Fibromyalgia
" other conditions such as Alzheimer's
infertility
heart disease

Suddenly
the medical world was on fire over glyconutrition. The "anecdotal evidence" concerning glyconutrition is mounting rapidly as people are finding conditions which have long grieved them…to be a thing of the past. For so many
the expectation for the future is not a "long
long
road" fraught with impossible dieting
grueling workouts
thousands of dollars of prescriptions
and the need to dream positively. People are getting relief - from diabetes
heart disease
cancer
allergies
and many others - with glyconutrition…and without prescriptions! (Glyconutrition products are NOT prescription items…they're food.)

Oh yes. I almost forgot. If you go to your doctor and he isn't aware of glyconutrition
don't panic. Your poor doctor CANNOT possibly keep up with all of the signs
symptoms
conditions
and their myriads of treatments
chemical make up and complications associated with thousands of maladies and the millions of prescription antidotes for those maladies. I couldn't as a doctor
and I had several DECADES of experience in the field. "Been there … done that" as they say.

Incidentally
doctors don't usually find out first what works. They're just too busy being overwhelmed with the medical conditions they face
day to day. They usually find out like everyone else…They read about it or attend some seminar. Often
the marketplace produces antidotes - or research finds the right treatment
as in this case - long before they do. But
I can tell you this. Glyconutrition is helping conditions as diverse as diabetes and Alzheimer's … and a lot of people have hope that these conditions CAN be and are being…overcome…

Suddenly
the future isn't what it used to be…

Health Food Supplements - Consumer Guide

Health food supplements are one of the hottest selling products in the market these days. Their total consumption values billions of dollars in the U.S. alone. Recent surveys show that more than half of the adults in the U.S. consume health food supplements in different forms
such as tablets
capsules
powders
soft gels
gel caps and liquids.

The increased consumption of health food supplements can be attributed to public awareness of health issues and improved standard of living in our society. Many studies have shown that there is a close correlation between health and nutrition. Insufficient supply of nutrients can weaken our body defense mechanism
causing medical problems from common ailments to more severe illnesses in the long term.

There are different types of health food supplements
including macronutrients (amino acids
proteins
essential fatty acids)
micronutrients (vitamins and minerals)
enzymes (digestive enzymes and antioxidant enzymes)
probiotics (beneficial bacteria in the gut)
and herbal supplements. These supplements have unique functions in our body. They are either essential for life and good health
modulate our immune system or help with liver detoxification
digestion
mental clarity
etc.

Many people argue that there is no need to consume health food supplements as long as you have a healthy lifestyle and eat a balanced diet. While this may be true
the fact is maintaining a healthy lifestyle and proper diet is difficult to achieve by many people.

Over the past few decades
the green revolution has changed the farming practices over the world. We use more chemical fertilizers
more pesticides to grow the food produce in order to increase harvest and shorten the growth period. As a result
soil nutrients and the population of beneficial soil bacteria are depleted rapidly
and the produce we grow today contain less micronutrient than before.

A stressful lifestyle
improper eating habits
imbalanced diet and increased exposure to chemicals such as environmental pollutants (air
water) and pesticides
drugs
hormones
heavy metals in foods also weaken our body gradually.

Although health food supplements can be beneficial to our health
consumers should still choose the products carefully. Currently
there is little regulation on the quality of health food supplements. Composition of some health food products may not match the label claims and the quality of raw materials and finished products is not guaranteed. Therefore
consumers should only buy from reputable health food manufacturers
read the labels carefully and read more related literatures.

Here are some general rules for buying health food supplements:

1) Supplements made from whole foods
natural sources are better than the synthetic ones. They are more bioactive
can be absorbed readily
and less likely to be contaminated by chemicals such as coal tars used in chemical synthesis.

2) Protein-bonded vitamins and minerals (vitamins and minerals in organic form
binding to amino acids) are more bioactive than the inorganic forms.

3) Buy supplements using safe extraction methods
such as cold pressed extraction or supercritical extraction. This can avoid the harmful residue from chemical extraction.

4) Herbal concentrate and extract are usually more effective than the raw herbs.

5) Organically grown or wild crafted herbs are less likely to be contaminated by heavy metals
pesticides and other chemicals.

6) Read the labels
do not consume more than the recommended dose.

7) Be careful when consuming certain herbal supplements
such as Ma Huang / ephedra
Kava Kava
comfrey
etc. Some studies have shown that these herbs may cause severe side effects to some people. Stop use if unusual signs appear after consumption.

8) Some health food supplements may interact with drugs
either by decreasing or increasing their effects. Consult your doctor if you are currently taking medications.

9) Pregnant and nursing women
people with specific medical conditions such consult the doctors when consuming health food supplements.

10) If in doubt
contact the supplement manufacturers or distributors for more information of their products.

11) Health food supplements are available in many places
such as grocery stores
health food stores
drug stores
pharmacies
supermarkets
department stores
online stores
etc. Be a smart consumer
compare the price and service before purchase.

Hair growth vitamins and minerals

There is some evidence from a few small studies that the western diet has changed significantly in the last 20 years and there are certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies likely to be found in a typical American diet.

There are nutrients and herbs that have the potential to affect hair growth in a positive or negative way.
There are three basic ways that nutritional diet vitamin supplements and amino acid supplements may act influence the hair follicles. The mineral rich and vitamin supplements may act directly on hair stimulating or inhibiting growth activity or they may act indirectly through other intermediaries. For example
a vitamin supplement or herb may influence the production of a hormone to which hair follicles are sensitive. This change in hormone activity in turn may change the activity of the hair follicles.

Some minerals and vitamins can influence the activity levels of another vitamin and minerals. For example
intake of lysine
vitamin B12 and vitamin C help in absorption of other factors like iron. It is worth bearing in mind that the complexity of the body means there are many potential interactions for even the simplest nutrient.

Vitamins for hair & hair growth
Since Vitamin C
helps the absorption of other factors
it is of some significance. Others are of secondary importance to hair growth like vitamin E. Vitamin E is necessary to provide good blood circulation to the scalp by increasing the uptake of oxygen. Not fundamentally required in a hair growth supplement
vitamin E is often present largely because people expect to see it in the ingredients - and the customer is always right!

Other common ingredients like the amino acids - L-Cysteine and L-methioine are of questionable value. Although they are fundamentally required for good hair growth
even a rather unhealthy diet should provide enough of these amino acids and supplementation is rarely required.

Vitamin supplements’ vitamins
The supplement industry is worth several billion dollars a year and it is still growing rapidly. Vitamin supplements
mineral supplements and herbal supplements available on net come in all shapes and forms
many of which are specifically advertised to promote healthy hair growth.

These ‘vitamin supplements’ vitamins are marketed by different names such as liquid vitamin supplements
natural vitamin supplements
daily vitamin supplements
nutritional vitamin supplements and also by such names as mail order vitamin supplements or best vitamins supplements.

But the for the most part
with a few notable exceptions like vitamin A & Folic acid
taking these supplements probably does not harm hair growth. But whether they can really help promote hair growth depends on what the actual cause of the hair loss is and how the supplements or active ingredients in herbs interact with the hair follicles.

Vitamin and herbal supplements
To buy online health supplements or herbal treatment requires you to go for quality. Unfortunately there is no universal method by which quality supplements can be identified. So it is best to depend upon the natural vitamins supplements or fresh foods.

Typically
vitamins and minerals are most concentrated in fresh foods
the older the food is
and the more processed it is
the less nutritious it is. So in principle
the average diet of the early twenty first century may be more deficient in certain nutrients required for healthy hair growth compared to the average diet of the mid to late twentieth century
but it should be emphasized that vitamin and mineral deficiency is still rarely a cause of hair loss.

Hair loss vitamins & minerals
In other words
do not waste your time on searching for vitamin supplements on net unless you have a deficiency detected by a blood test. A comprehensive test for vitamin and mineral levels when one or more is suspected as a cause of hair loss would include; serum iron
serum ferritin
and total iron binding capacity
serum zinc. The deficiency which directly affects hair growth can be related to vitamin (H) biotin
Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12. You can go for testing for others if they are on offer
but biotin and B6 testing is enough to cover 95% of vitamin deficiencies related to hair loss. And only when such a deficiency is detected by the tests that you need to buy and eat the ‘vitamin supplements’ vitamins. So the bottom line is that it is better to have the natural supplements through a balanced diet.

Green Tea Natures Miracle Heath Drink

“Camellia Sinensis” or Green Tea is rich in Catechins
which are antioxidants. The best variety is said to originate from tea farms in China
especially those protected from pesticides. It is best to drink pure green tea without preservatives or other artificial flavors.

Teas have been found to have powerful effects on levels of cholesterol in the blood stream and on your health in general. Green tea in particular can also help in battling cancer. In Japan
it was discovered that drinking 10 or more cups of green tea daily delays the onset of cancer by some nine years among women and about three years in men.

Another source of good green tea is the high-grade tea sold at Japanese Tea Online. These are delicious teas and contain large amounts of polyphenols and flavoniods (catechins which are also immune system boosters)
and natural vitamins and minerals. Catechins destroy free radicals. Green tea also has carotenoids
chlorophyll
polysaccharides natural vitamins C and E
manganese
potassium
and zinc
all essential to your health. Pure green tea is said to be 100 times more effective than vitamin C from other sources
and 25 times better than vitamin E from other sources.

You may find green tea mixed with other medicinal herbs in leading drug stores
but rarely can you find pure green tea sold alone. Green tea is usually sold in tea bags
but modern processing has made possible its liquefied form in bottles
and also its powdered form in sachet packages
without damaging its health and healing benefits.

Green tea and other natural food supplements carry micronutrients that feed your immune system and strengthen your body cells. When the immune system becomes stronger
tissue and cell repair is enhanced in a way that the body retains the ability to heal itself; thus
ailments and even serious diseases are healed. It is not the food supplement itself that heals
but the empowered immune system.

A Japanese monk
Eisai
wrote in 1211 AD that (green) tea is a miraculous medicine for the maintenance of health. “Tea has the extraordinary power to prolong life. Anywhere a person cultivates tea
long life will follow.”
Eisai further wrote that tea in general was known as an elixir that created the “immortal” mountain dwellers.

In the 16th century
European explorers were said to have found that tea
especially green tea
was used to treat fever
headache
joint pains
and stomachaches and some other health ailments.Green tea
according to modern nutritionists and herbal medicine experts
can help prevent high blood pressure
cancer
diabetes
heart ailments
skin diseases
and lung ailments. It actually delays the aging process. It eliminates distress by refreshing your mind and body.

Glyconutrients Are Only One Piece Of The Puzzle...

Sunday, 6 September 2009

I recently read a lengthy article on Glyconutrients. The author of the article (who shall remain nameless)
incorrectly and falsely made statements about glyconutrients and cures. If you or a loved one are suffering from an auto-immune disorder
please read this article before randomly buying a product off the internet.

Don't get me wrong. I am a huge proponent of glyconutrients. However
people need to be informed and educated before they start buying nutritional products.

The reality is that glyconutrients are GREAT; and they seriously help people that have compromised immune systems. Glyconutrients have the ability to feed our body at the cellular level. The end result of this is that your body acts and responds more efficiently. This means your body will naturally fight off and address current illnesses and ailments BETTER than if you did not take glyconutrients.

At this point in the research with glyconutrients
it is INCORRECT to make statements that glyconutrients heal. However
the research is far enough along that people who are battling auto immune disorders should SERIOUSLY consider taking glyconutrients.

My other beef with glyconutrient advertising is that it is NOT a silver bullet. There are many good things everybody should be doing for their bodies on a daily basis. These things are even more important when you are fighting a major autoimmune disorder.

For example
everybody should be doing the following:

Taking a good multivitamin

Drinking eight classes of water a day
preferably distilled.

Taking Co-enzyme Q10 and Alpha Lipoic Acid

Taking Priobiotics

Taking a high quality Vitamin C

Think about this. When your body is under stress; and it is failing to fight off a disease properly
wouldn't you want to give your body all the raw materials it needs to assist in the healing process? Glyconutrients are one MAJOR step in this process; but they are not the entire process.

There are two very good websites on the internet that discuss and sell multi-vitamins and glyconutrients.

Glyconutrients The Next Generation Of Supplementation

If you or somebody you care about is struggling with fatigue
autoimmune disorders
or a life threatening illness
glyconutrients can help. These all natural plant based 'raw materials' help support your body's ability to produce special structures called glycoproteins. Glycoproteins directly affect the ability of your cells to communicate with each other so they are functioning correctly. Everybody responds and fights disease the best when your cells are communicating effectively.

Most bodies' do not metabolize food and nutrients correctly b/c their body is "out of balance". The glyco proteins in Glyconutrients
provide your body the raw materials it needs to encourage your body to 'self-correct' any imbalances.

"Your body is an amazing health machine that can heal itself of disease if you give it the proper nutrition."

Glyconutrients should be taken in conjunction with a GOOD multi-vitamin. They are not a replacement for a healthy diet and multi-vitamin supplementation. The addition of Glycontrients to your diet will enhance the efficacy of your wellness regime (proper nutrition and vitamin supplementation).

What do Doctors Say about Glyconutrients?

"The biggest revolutionary change in the war against disease is represented by glyconutrients. Glyconutrients are taking their place as one of the pivotal classes of nutrients. I know this not only because of the medical studies but also by the profound effects it has had toward promoting health in my patients that had been lacking over the past 20 years". --- Michael D. Schlachter
M.D.
Board Certified Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease Clinical Instructor
University of Nevada Medical School.

Harper's Biochemistry
a textbook used by many of the top medical schools in the U.S.
was rewritten in 1996 to add an entire chapter listing the 8 necessary glyconutrients... mannose
galactose
glucose (the only glyconutrient still plentiful in our modern diets)
fucose
xylose
n-acetylglucosamine
n-acetylgalactosamine
and n-acetylneuraminic acid. The co-author of Harper's
Dr. Robert Murray
was so impressed with the company we listed for you to obtain your glyconutrients that he now is on their Board of Medical Directors.

Glyconutrients are the next generation of wellness supplementation. We have just started to understand the many benefits of them. The research reported in the last two decades has fueled a new approach towards wellness and ignited a new sense of hope with many of the world's leading immunologists
researchers

Glyconutrients - My Personal Story

How could this be happening? Our dog (Storm) just received her one year checkup in June and was given a clean bill of health. In shock by the news
we refused to put Storm down and defied the recommendation of our vet oncologist.

What followed could only be described as a long exhaustive internet and phone search for cancer alternatives for dogs. After 100 hours of research in two weeks
we stumbled across a homeopathic vet in our area. What we learned was shocking.

Dogs like humans - even puppies who are barely adult dogs are exposed to triggers every single day that can kick off a serious of unfortunate health events. These triggers can come from the air we breath
the water we drink
the food we eat
and the vaccinations we take to stay healthy - yes even vaccinations can be a trigger to cancer.

Listening with abated breath
we continued to learn from our homeopathic vet that traditional doctors treat most auto immune diseases (like cancer) at the symptom level; but they never address the underlying question which is why did we get sick in the first place?

When your body is out of balance
your body fails to do what it was designed to do - which is heal itself. When your cells stop talking to each other efficiently they become corrupt. These corrupt cells can lead to illnesses and in the case of our Storm - Lymphosarcoma.

It was recommended that we put Storm on a glyconutrient supplementation program coupled with a raw diet high in protein and low in carbs. We started her on a leading brand of glyco supplements. These supplements contained the eight simple sugars that provide your body the building blocks it needs to enhance cell to cell communication.

Within two weeks of this program
the tumor that Storm had was 90% gone. This was a tumor that was twice the size of her heart on the ultrasound just two weeks before. At the end of the first month
Storm was diagnosed as being in remission.

Don't get me wrong. Cancer is a smart
nasty disease that mutates and has one purpose - survival. Is there a cure for cancer? - probably not. Is there a better way to treat cancer? - absolutely. Are glyconutrients part of that better treatment? - my opinion is YES.

Holly and I have seen first hand what these glyconutrients can do. We both take them; and our dogs both take them. Did we know about glyconutrients before Storm was diagnosed with cancer? - NO. Do most doctors know about them? - NO. This is because the discovery of glyconutrients is fairly new and has only recently been added to the curriculum at medical schools.

If you are or a loved one are suffering from an auto immune disorder I strong urge you to check out this website. www.glyconutritionforlife.org

Glyconutrients - How Much To Take

Thursday, 3 September 2009

Before we address the obvious question about how to take glyconutrients
let's first discuss briefly what they are.

Glyconutrients
are 100% vegetarian based derived entirely from plants & seaweeds. They combine aloe based saccharides with fucose-rich Undaria pinnatifida. They are Gluten Free; and usually contain arabinogalactan. Arabinogalactan has shown some immune-enhancing activity in the laboratory
particularly with regard to the stimulation of human natural killer cell cytotoxicity.

Glyconutrient products are specifically designed to enhance cellular communication. True wellness begins at the cellular level. Think about it? If your body is made up of millions and billions of cells that need to talk to each other
wouldn't it do its job better if the communication was better? Glyconutrients have amazing research behind them.

Glyconutrients are typically
sold in a bulk powder
capsule
or liquid medium. I have chosen to only discuss the dosages for bulk powder and capsules
because I believe that liquid supplementations are subject to oxygen and free radical contamination and should NOT be consumed.

Bulk Powder Recommended Use:
One scoop (1/2 teaspon) twice daily mixed with your favorite juice
tea
or water. In trials
the glyconutrient powder has been proven to be safe
& non-toxic
with no known side effects (up to at least 60 scoops per day).

Capsule Recommended Use:
Two capsules twice daily on an empty or full stomach taken with a full glass of water. In trials
Glyconutrient capsules have been proven to be safe
& non-toxic
with no known side effects. (up to 20 capsules per day).

There is an excellent book on the market entitled 'In Search of Manna'. You can buy it at www.amazon.com. It contains doctor recommendations for 'emergency' dosages of glyconutrients based on specific auto immune disorders. The recommendations based above are for maintenace dosages or healthy people that want to maintain good health.

Glyconutrients - Can I get them in my food

Glyconutrients are broken down into EIGHT simple sugars. These simple sugars are found in our diets. If you eat the correct fruits and vegetables you can avoid taking a glyconutrient supplement. However
you may find sticking to a diet that contains the correct types of fruits and vegetables to receive the proper amount of all EIGHT glyconutrients (sugars) may be difficult.

If this is the case (as it is for most people)
please choose a high quality glyconutrient supplement. There is only one company that markets a patented glyconutrient supplement that contains all eight glyconutrients. You can find this product here.

and Corn.

As you can see from the description above it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to ingest the correct types of fruits and vegetables to provide your body with sufficient quantities of all EIGHT glyconutrients. Instead of buying separate supplements that contain only ONE of the eight essential glyconutrients
you can simply purchase a comprehensive glyconutrient product that contains all eight glyconutrients.

Currently
there is only one company in the world that manufactures a 100% pure patented glyconutrients product. Others sell glyconutrients; but none meet the rigourous standards of this patented product. You can view more information about this product at

Give Your Body Its Vitamin Supplements

What are vitamins? The term 'vitamin' was first given to a group of substances that were thought to be vital for life
each containing a nitrogen-containing component known as an amine. Vitamins are essential for the proper functioning of our body. They help to strengthen the immune system
to ward off disease
and even to improve the overall mood of a person. If a particular vitamin is missing from your diet
it may lead to a deficiency disease.

Vitamins can help prevent diseases mainly in two ways. First
they prevent the deficiency syndromes characteristic of the respective vitamin. Second
they increase the health benefits of the specific vitamin.

Vitamins mainly belong to two categories - fat-soluble and water-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins are those that can be stored in the body fat and hence need not be replenished daily. Water soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body and need to be taken daily.

The debate has always been whether you need vitamin supplements to meet the body's daily needs or whether you can get it from a balanced diet. Theoretically
you do not need vitamin supplements. However
in reality
you cannot get enough of the vitamins that the body needs from your diet. Blame it on pollution
blame it on declining soil quality due to intensive agricultural practices
blame it on your eating habits
it's getting more and more difficult to get your daily dose of vitamins from your food.

Taking vitamin supplements are
therefore
unavoidable. You need to take them regularly if you need to get all the vitamins into the body. Trying to compromise on that could lead to the breakdown of your immune system
and deficiency diseases.

But there are plenty of vitamin supplements out there. How do you choose the best one? For one
you cannot hope to take a vitamin pill and end the story. Because your body needs multivitamins
and pills containing all of them in the required quantities will be real big pills. They will be a pain to carry and eat regularly
to say the least. Again multivitamin supplements should have the correct mix. If you end up taking too much of one vitamin
that again is can cause health problems.

Talking of multivitamin supplements
one cannot ignore glyconutrients
a recent discovery. Glyconutrients are the plant carbohydrates. Though there are more than 200 of these
eight of them are most essential for our body. These eight essential sugars are responsible for some of the most fundamental biochemical processes in the body. Glyconutrients help in cell-to-cell communication. When the 600 trillion cells in your body talk well
they build well too. That means the body's systems and processes stay fighting fit!

What are the benefits of glyconutrients? Glyconutrients are known for their anti-aging properties. They help athletes in improving their performance and to reduce the recovery time in case of injury. Glyconutrients have also produced positive effects in children suffering from ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

Whether you are suffering from a medical condition or not
glyconutrients are essential for your body. They help your body heal
repair
regenerate
regulate and protect itself.

So when you select your multivitamin supplement
make sure it contains glyconutrients. They are absolutely necessary for maintaining optimum wellness of the body.

Four Things About Eniva VIBE You Should Know

Thursday, 20 August 2009

1. All-In-One Nutritional Supplement

As you age, the body replaces cells in your organs and tissues. Why, then, are they often not as good as when you were younger? One of the primary answers is STRESS.

Bodily stress is caused by many things—mental strain, physical exertion, environmental toxins like cigarette smoke and pesticides, even poor diets! Stress can be dangerous because damaging molecules called FREE RADICALS are generated. Free radicals are harmful scavengers created INSIDE your body that cause tremendous harm and accelerate the signs of aging—disrupting body systems, destroying cell membranes, mutating cells, even reprogramming your body’s DNA! However, ANTIOXIDANTS are nature’s way of fighting harmful free radical scavengers.

Antioxidants convert free radicals into HARMLESS elements and neutralize their damaging effects. VIBE’s ANTIOX2™ blend is a comprehensive formula of MULTIPLE antioxidant-rich nutrients. It has the highest certified antioxidant potency of any supplement in liquid formulation. VIBE’s ANTIOX2™ helps the body neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals to effectively combat the aging process.*

* Powerful antioxidant capability*
* Helps the body counteract dangerous free radicals responsible for aging*
* Nourishes healthy skin and hair*
* Promotes energy and stamina*
* Helps the body neutralize harmful environmental toxins*

Combining multiple and specific anti-aging nutrients, just like adding ingredients to a gourmet meal, requires correct amounts, balanced ratios, and the right mixing techniques. If any one component is out of balance, just like in making a gourmet meal, the end result is Disappointing. That is why no other company has been able to perfect a comprehensive ALL-IN-ONE anti-aging supplement. Most companies focus either on one primary ingredient and promote the benefits of that ONE ingredient as a total health answer, OR combine very, very small (and ineffective) amounts of many ingredients to make the label ”look“ good. The end result is a product that delivers very little nutritional benefit.

2. Product For Our Times

The development of VIBE™ has been years in the making. The pioneer of water-soluble nutrient delivery technology - the Eniva Corporation - offers VIBE as the benchmark by which other liquid nutritional supplements are measured. The success of the company's line of potent, water-soluble nutrients has helped millions of people and has laid the foundation for the development of VIBE.

Eniva's VIBE is different - more scientifically advanced as compared to other multi-nutrient supplements on the market today.

a. Facts with Integrity

Interpreting the labels of some multi-nutrient products is like trying to read a foreign language… you're just not sure what they're saying. Some companies do not even know the amounts of some ingredients in their products - they say "it varies from one batch to another" or "there is really no way to know the true amounts." At Eniva, not only do they verify raw material sourcing and have a government inspected manufacturing facility, they provide a detailed listing of the consistent ingredients and their amounts in each VIBE bottle.

b. Scientific Balance

Eniva devotes a tremendous amount of research and development effort to its products. Ironically, the science of correct nutrient ratios and interactions is often overlooked by most nutritional manufacturers. At Eniva, the laws of chemistry and body balance have been respected. No ingredient is sourced, or technical process explored unless it is grounded in qualified, scientific principles. Volumes of research documents, clinical studies, and test results are reviewed by Eniva's R&D Team as new technologies are explored. VIBE truly incorporates the best of both science and nature.

c. Unique Ingredients

VIBE contains high-dose Green Tea and Aloe Vera Gel in each serving. These unique ingredients possess a multitude of health benefits well known to the scientific community.*

d. High ORAC Score

Short for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, ORAC is an analysis that measures the total antioxidant power of foods and other substances. It indicates the amount of dangerous free radicals an antioxidant can "absorb" or neutralize. Scientific findings from the USDA suggest that eating plenty of high-ORAC fruits and vegetables may help slow the aging process in the body and brain. Eniva's VIBE has one of the highest ORAC scores on the market derived from natural fruits, vegetables, and botanical sources.

e. Class 10,000 Production

VIBE is formulated and produced within a Class 10,000 Clean Room Manufacturing Facility. This is the same type of environment where heart pacemakers and super-computer chips are manufactured. Eniva has complete control over environmental factors such as air quality, temperature, pressure, and other variables. VIBE goes through strict process controls and inspections to ensure both safety and efficacy.

3. Pioneering Breakthroughs in Anti-Aging Science

Did you know the aging process can actually be accelerated by nutritional deficiency, stress, and environmental factors?
The good news is scientific study has shown you can slow the biological aging process! And in many cases, even reverse symptoms of aging by:

a. Meeting your body’s nutritional needs.
b. Neutralizing the effects of stress and free radicals.
c. Strengthening your body’s immune system.
d. Targeting health risks with specialized nutrients.

It takes the entire combination of ALL these factors to effectively help your body manage and slow the aging process.

No ONE special ingredient or ancient berry answers all your body’s complex needs. Just as a song requires more than one note to become a beautiful melody, your body needs to address ALL aspects of the aging process to restore its natural vigor and brilliance.

Never before has the ability to successfully address ALL factors of the aging process in ONE nutritional supplement been available. Most supplements are only able to address one, maybe even two factors, but with VIBE™ there is now an ALL-IN-ONE answer for the ENTIRE aging process. VIBE™ delivers the most recognized breakthroughs in anti-aging technology WITH the addition of specialized nutrients. VIBE™ is a comprehensive, 100% natural formulation able to address modern health concerns while providing the best of anti-aging science.

Discover VIBE™ and re-discover your body’s natural vigor and brilliance… for the rest of your life.

Eniva Corporation is the FIRST company in the world to perfect a true ALL-IN-ONE nutritional supplement addressing ALL aspects of the aging process. It’s called VIBE™ and comes to you with a commitment of safety, quality, and effectiveness.

4. Eniva Corporation

On May 1, 1998, a group of entrepreneurs from Minneapolis, Minnesota, founded Eniva with the vision of creating a company that delivered value-based success in the network marketing industry. If the past is any indicator, Eniva is certainly on track. Eniva is a debt-free company doing in excess of $10 million in annual sales with more than 100,000 Members across the country. Eniva’s product line is manufactured in-house, allowing complete control over materials, quality, and margins. Eniva's corporate office is a beautiful, 40,000 square-foot facility that currently houses a Class 10,000 R&D laboratory and FDA/Dept. of Ag.-inspected manufacturing facility. More than 50 employees support operations at the Home Office. The foundation upon which Eniva stands today is indeed solid.

Fundamental to Eniva's success is the fact it manufactures 99% of the products it distributes. This allows for complete control of sourcing, product integrity, and margins. This aspect of control, facilitated by their USDA certified manufacturing facility and Class 10,000 Research & Development laboratory, no only allows for significant manufacturing capability, but also the development of new breakthrough technologies to fuel Eniva's ever-growing product line.

- USDA certified manufacturing facility

Food And Vitamin Loss Over Time

You know the claim on food value from the label that is stuck on it; let's pick a nutritious drink product and on that drink is some nutritional claim that states it has a shelf value of two years. After those two years that product still needs to contain 100% of the vitamin C level.

Vitamin deterioration
That does not mean that when the drink product was manufactured it contained 100% of vitamin C and after the two year has gone, it only contain half that level of vitamin C. What it means is that the manufacturer had to put an overage of that vitamin in the product because the vitamins will deteriorate over a period of time. Usually the higher the temperature the higher rate of deterioration, and the longer it is stored means something too.

Vitamin C is the most sensitive vitamin. The government does routinely inspect the food manufacturing companies with products that have this problem. What the food companies and food scientist does when the product is formulated they will add an overage of vitamins and minerals. It protects the product during the shelf life.

200% of vitamins in the product
So if they want the product to contain 100% of vitamin C after 2 years, then they have to put 200% of vitamins in the product, because of the deterioration that takes place. 2 years later it will have lost half of its value, and contain the claimed amount.

Food companies have documentation on all food products that they have manufactured. They know the exact deterioration rate on all their products, and therefore they can predict the deterioration rate of new and similar products. That means that a new nutritional beverage formula can be based on the level of a know products nutrition values.

Vitamin questions
That makes me ask my self. Can I trust that the food I buy from the store has the nutrition value that it claims? Can I feel sure that my body gets all the vitamins it must have to function? I say better be safe than sorry!

Thank you for your time.

For Lasting Vision And Healthy Eyes

Eat plenty of spinach (full of beta carotene), citrus (for vitamin C), nuts (for vitamin E) and lean beef (for zinc) now. An organic diet consisting of such food items can reduce the risk of vision loss by 35 percent for people between 70 and 85 years of age, as per a new study in The Journal of the American Medical Association.

Foods brimming with the kind of antioxidants mentioned above help fight an age-related eye disease called macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of blindness in older people. Antioxidants counter the effects of oxidation on the tissues and structure of the eyes. The body attempts to counter the effects of oxidation by producing and using antioxidants such as are found in Vitamins.

The following Vitamins have been found to improve, protect and support eye health;

Vitamin C found in fruits and vegetables, such as oranges, strawberries, rosehip and broccoli, reduces pressure in the Glaucoma, slowing deterioration in macular degeneration, and reducing the risk of cataracts.

Vitamin A found in carrots, sweet potatoes, and liver may reduce risk of cataracts, and night blindness. Its deficiency might cause blindness, and corneal ulcers.

Vitamin E found in many nuts, such as almonds and hazelnuts, uses its antioxidant properties to reduce the risk for macular degeneration and cataracts.

Besides vitamins; Minerals play a vital role in maintaining and improving eyesight. Minerals are inorganic compounds (Carbon free) that actually metabolize vitamins in the body. They help maintain flow of information (electricity) necessary for every element.

Some minerals and compounds believed to be crucial to the health of eyes are: Zinc (found in red meat, wheat, oysters); Selenium (seafood, yeast and nuts); Lutein (spinach and collard green - reduces dry eyes); Bioflavonoids (citrus fruits, bilberry, and strawberries - improve night vision); Carotenoids pigment (red, orange and yellow fruits and plants, leafy green vegetables - prevents macular degeneration and cataracts)

Ideally all the above mentioned nutrients should be present in normally available food. But that’s not the case because modern farming practices - read pesticides and fertilizers - and the depletion of nutrients in the soil has resulted in fruits and vegetables not so rich in vitamins and minerals. Hence, the need for food supplements and ‘organic food’.

But not everyone can have organic food; for lack of money or for lack of access, so a Vitamin Supplement is a good option to get those missing nutrients and avoid potentially dangerous diseases such as macular degeneration.

1. Bilberry - Bilberry is a herb used for both gastrointestinal and eye health. It contains active ingredients called Anthocyanidin Bioflavonoids, which are are antioxidants that help improve the flow of blood through the capillaries in eyes. It's also used to treat diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.

2. Grapeseed - Grapeseed improves the peripheral circulation in our eyes, and also strengthens the capillaries.

3. Eyebright - Eyebright makes a great eye home remedy. It's great for sore eyes, and has an anti-inflammatory and soothing action.

4. Omega 3 Fatty Acids - Research from Harvard Medical School has found that taking Omega-3 oils reduces the chance of getting dry eyes. Try taking 3 to 6 grams of a good quality fish oil supplement daily.

Now Food Supplements packed with all the above nutrients are readily available. They do help, but it is important to note that care should be taken while determining the appropriate quantities. If health concerns are a factor, consulting a dietitian or physician may be prudent.

General Information About Vitamins

Where does the word "vitamin" come from?

The words is derived from the Latin word vita (life) and the biochemical term amine (nitrogen-containing) because vitamins are required for life and were originally thought to be amines. Vitamins are organic compounds required by humans in small amounts from the diet.

What are vitamins?

A vitamin is an organic (carbon-containing) substances derived from plants and animals that human body must have in very small amounts. Without vitamins the human body would not survive, vitamins are required for normal growth, metabolism (creating energy in your cells), and health. Vitamins are needed to make enzymes and hormones, which are important substances human body uses to make all the chemical reactions needed to live. Most of us get enough of vitamins from our food, but it may be necessary for some people to take a vitamin supplement, because an ongoing shortage of vitamins will lead to failed health, weakness, susceptibility to disease.

The body needs at least 13 different vitamins to function properly: Vitamin A - Retinol; Vitamin B complex (B1 - Thiamine; B2 - Riboflavin; B3 - Niacin; B6 - Pyridoxine; B12 - Cyanocobalamin; B9 - Folic acid; B5 - Pantothenic acid; H - Biotin); Vitamin C - Ascorbic acid; Vitamin D - Calciferol (can be obtained through sunlight); Vitamin E - Tocopherol; Vitamin K - Menaquinone.

There are two types of vitamins: fat soluble and water-soluble.

Fat-soluble vitamins

Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat-soluble, they dissolve in fat but not water. Once these vitamins are absorbed by the body, they are stored mostly in the fatty tissues and in the liver. The liver provides the primary storage tissue for vitamins A and D. Vitamin E is stored mainly in body fat and to a lesser extent in reproductive organs. Relatively little vitamin K is stored.

Because you can store these vitamins, you don't have to get a supply of them every day. However, eating fats or oils that are not digested can cause shortages of fat-soluble vitamins. On the other hand, getting too much of these vitamins, particularly vitamins A and D, can lead to toxic levels in the body and cause problems.

Water-soluble vitamins

The water-soluble vitamins - vitamin C and all the B vitamins - need to dissolve in water before your body can absorb them. Because of this, your body can't store these vitamins in any significant amounts. The water-soluble vitamins your body doesn't use are removed by your kidneys and come out in your urine, so you need a fresh supply of these vitamins every day. You can't really overdose on water-soluble vitamins, unless you take truly massive doses.

Water-soluble vitamins are easily destroyed or washed out during food storage or preparation. Proper storage and preparation of food can minimize vitamin loss. To reduce vitamin loss, refrigerate fresh produce, keep milk and grains away from strong light, and use the cooking water from vegetables to prepare soups.

How to get vitamins?

It is best to get the vitamins and minerals your body needs through the food you eat. A daily diet of varied foods can provide you with needed vitamins and minerals for maintaining a healthy body. To get the most vitamins possible from your food, refrigerate fresh produce and keep milk and grains away from strong light. Vitamins are easily destroyed and washed out during food preparation and storage.

There are also a number of other factors that deplete our bodies of important vitamins:

* Smoking - strips 25mg of vitamin C for each cigarette smoked.
* Stress - utilizes a lot of B-complex vitamins and minerals.
* Eating sugar and other refined products - will strip chromium, zinc, vitamin B3 and other minerals from the body.

Too little of just one vitamin may disturb the body's balance and lead vitamin deficiency. Some deficiencies can be cured simply by eating foods that contains the vitamin that you need. Other deficiencies lead to diseases and conditions that are more difficult to treat.

However, taking too many vitamins can also be dangerous. This is especially true of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K: it is harder to get rid of excess of these vitamins in the body. You should never take extra vitamins and minerals without talking to your doctor first. Your doctor may also suggest taking extra vitamins or minerals if you have certain health problems.

Five Steps to Choosing a Great Vitamin

Tuesday, 18 August 2009

Have you ever waltzed into your friendly neighborhood Nutrition Store or frantically surfed the worldwide web searching for that elusive miracle pill
deluding yourself into believing that maybe
just maybe
it would somehow magically transform your so-called body into the next Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie? Or perhaps you want pecks like Arnold. Or the energy to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Or heck
maybe you’d simply settle for enough energy to pry your sleepy little self out of that comfy bed as your annoying alarm clock goes berserk Monday morning
like a runaway freight train on steroids. If so
then you’ve probably encountered a severe mega-dose of chronic overwhelm. Yikes! We are continually bombarded with a never-ending avalanche of pills and potions. Plus
you’d almost need the bank account of Bill Gates or Donald Trump to afford the buffed-up body you’d “really” like to have. Meanwhile
Madison Avenue persistently insists that you won’t be able to live with yourself until you finally succumb to today’s latest nutritional fad.

So what’s the solution?

If you’ve read this far
you are probably convinced that supplementing your diet with vitamins is critically important. You probably already know how depleted our topsoil is. Chances are
you’re also cognoscente of the highly processed state of the foodless foods we consume on a regular basis. Taber's Medical Dictionary concludes that vitamins are indispensable for the maintenance of good health. Likewise
The Journal of American Medical Association concluded that everyone should take a multi-vitamin everyday.

So it’s not a question of whether or not we should take vitamins. Rather
the question we ought to be asking is
“With so many brands of vitamins on the market
which one is the smartest choice?”

Great question.

However
before we can even begin to answer that question
we have to answer a series of other sub-questions
such as:

1. Are cheap
synthetic vitamins just as good as all-natural vitamins?

2. Which vitamins and minerals do my body need?

3. What dosage should I take?

Let’s narrow the playing field by addressing those questions one at a time.

Are cheap
synthetic vitamins just as good as all-natural vitamins?

First
let’s compare synthetic vitamins with all-natural vitamins. I just completed an article entitled “Vitamin Wars: Natural VS Synthetic.” Putting everything into a nutshell
synthetic vitamins simply cannot measure up to nature’s finest. Over 3
800
different compounds have been identified in foods as having nutritional significance. However
in a laboratory
twenty nutrients are about all that modern science can reproduce and put into a vitamin product.

But even more of a concern than the ineffectiveness of these synthetic vitamins is the harm that they can cause. One of many examples is a recent study on Vitamin C as synthetic ascorbic acid. It was found to thicken the walls of the arteries.

On the other hand
all-natural vitamins made from whole-food sources have many positive benefits that synthetic vitamins just can’t duplicate in a lab. Whole-food vitamins derive their nutrients directly from fruits and vegetables. Unlike synthetic vitamins
whole-food vitamins do not rob precious nutrients from the body. Rather
they supply the individual cells with the nutrients they need to flourish. For greatest gains in terms of health
take only whole food vitamins. When evaluating a vitamin supplement
simply read the label. Rather than multi-syllable
unpronounceable chemical names
you should find the names of foods listed as the vitamin sources. What a concept! This is your way of knowing that you are getting the best possible absorption and retention of your vitamins.

Which vitamins and minerals do my body need?

The short answer is
there are many benefits to all vitamins and minerals.

Vitamin A is important for our vision
while preventing cancer and promoting wellness of bones
eyes
hair
mucous linings
membranes
nails
skin and teeth.

Vitamin B2 promotes healthy skin
nails
and hair.

Vitamin C extends life by enabling protein cells to hold together.

And we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface.

Minerals are critical

Minerals are also critical to maintaining good health. Approximately 75% of the people living in the Western World are not ingesting the right amount of Magnesium
approximately 68% are not ingesting enough Calcium
approximately 58% are not ingesting enough Iron
and approximately 40% are not ingesting enough Zinc.

Make sure your minerals are chelated – here’s why:

Most minerals found in synthetic supplements are cheap and not what we would recommend for the body. They are not chelated minerals and therefore it is extremely difficult for the body to absorb and utilize these minerals after ingesting them. Many times they cause problems with the digestive tract and other systems of the body.

What you might not know is that a chelated mineral acts differently within the body. A chelated mineral is a mineral that is bonded with amino acids or malates naturally found within the food in a stable form. Since 95% of amino acids are absorbed through the intestinal tract
it makes it very easy for high quality chelated minerals to be absorbed and utilized by the body.

Don’t forget to take your Probiotics!

You may be asking
“Probi – what – ics”?

The term “probiotics” simply means “pro life.” Their role in maintaining good health is tremendous. In the scientific community
they are known as “friendly bacteria.” Probiotics aid the digestive system and strengthen the immune system. Bottom line
probiotics have such a wide range of positive roles that nearly everybody could improve their health by supplementing their diet with probiotics.

The importance of Enzymes

Like probiotics
enzymes also aid digestion. Proper digestion of food should be your body’s top priority. Why? Because all other bodily functions
including the immune system
energy production and even brain functions
are all put on pause until the body digests its food. When digestion is functioning properly
food is broken down and nutrients are made available by the body itself for repair
metabolism
and healing without undue stress. Many negative factors wreck havoc on our digestive systems: the way our foods are grown and processed
toxins in the environment - even undue stress and anger. As a result
up to 70 million Americans experience a whole range of digestive disorders such as bloating
gas
and stomach cramps.

What dosage should I take?
Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA)

RDA's are based on scientific research and are set at levels to provide for 98% of all healthy persons living in the US. There is a cushion built in so that if you get 67% of the RDA for a nutrient
you should be getting a minimum amount as an average person. Remember that the RDA's are based on preventing deficiency symptoms specific to each vitamin and mineral. So when choosing a multi-vitamin
check to see if a daily serving contains 100% of the RDA
providing
of course
that a daily value has been established.

So in summary
there are five Steps to Choosing a Great Vitamin:

1. Choose a multi-vitamin made from the highest grade of Whole-Food sources. Do NOT choose a multi-vitamin that contains a concoction of synthetic ingredients that you can’t even pronounce.

2. Choose minerals that are chelated.

3. Choose a multi-vitamin containing Probiotics.

4. Choose a multi-vitamin containing Enzymes derived from vegetables.

5. Choose a multi-vitamin containing 100% of the Recommended Daily Allowances whenever established.

Keeping the above criteria in mind dramatically narrows the playing field.

It’s also a good idea to select a product that gives you a money-back guarantee. Quality multi-vitamins are not as cheap as synthetics
but they are affordable.

I hope this information has educated you and will help you make smart choices. Remember - you only get one body in this life. Treat it well and stay healthy!

Exciting New Clinical Research on Arthritis Supplement

For the millions of Americans who suffer from arthritis
the search for relief is often long and confusing.

For many
the recall of the arthritis medication Vioxx served as a wake-up call. To avoid side effects
many people looked for an alternative source of relief in supplements such as glucosamine and chondroitin.

However
a recent study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that these supplements used alone have not delivered hoped-for results in alleviating arthritis. Fortunately
recent studies have shown that people who are taking a supplement known as SierraSil have shown significant improvement.

A recent clinical trial found that 85 percent of those taking SierraSil
a mineral complex from the Sierra Mountains
experienced relief from arthritis symptoms within two weeks or less.

The complex is comprised of numerous
naturally occurring macro and trace minerals.

"SierraSil is one of the few natural products to have passed rigorous scientific research with flying colors
said Dr. Alan Xenakis, M.D., author of numerous books on health and nutrition.
What is most impressive are the results from this recent double-blind
placebo-controlled study demonstrating that it is safe and effective for significantly reducing pain and inflammation in patients with arthritis."

If you turn off the inflammation
then the joints can start to rebuild naturally.

Unlike other nutraceuticals
this complex works by suppressing gene expression associated with inflammatory responses. The combination of these minerals works as an anti-inflammatory agent.

While the human body can make many vitamins
it cannot produce a single mineral. Due to mineral depletions in the soil
you can no longer rely on getting all the necessary minerals your body needs from the food you eat.

Studies have shown that this mineral complex promotes joint mobility and protects cartilage. Many people who have tried it also report increased energy
enhanced athletic performance and a renewed sense of well-being. Vancouver native Elsbeth Turner said
I have been taking SierraSil regularly since the summer of '05 and find that I am free of all my joint discomfort. It is a great product; I am feeling so much better overall.

A recent study
published in the international Journal of Inflammation
found that taking SierraSil helps to reduce the inflammation associated with arthritis.

Many people who use the supplement would agree. One of its biggest fans is golf legend and former CBS-TV analyst Ken Venturi. "It's been amazing! After using SierraSil for a short period of time
the strength has come back to my hands
and I have more flexibility than before
said Venturi.
I'm back to hitting golf balls almost every day
and I've picked up distance again. And what it's done for me most of all
it's given me back the game of golf
which I love so much."

Thousands of people
including athletes and doctors
are using the complex for daily relief.

According to Mark Miller
Ph.D. and professor of cardiovascular sciences and pediatrics at Albany Medical College
NY
the complex may "offer exciting new approaches to limiting the joint destruction and lack of mobility associated with arthritis."

This can be good news for anyone who is restricted by arthritis pain and seeks a safe
natural method of relief.

"An effective
new mineral supplement offers a natural solution-without any side effects-to people who suffer from arthritis"-Dr. Alan Xenakis
M.D.
co-author of "Mineral Miracle."

Ephedra Supplements May Not Be Worth The Risk

Ephedra supplements are hard to find in stores because of the dangers linked to them
but they are still legal and available to anyone determined to take them.

I see them now and then in gas station markets or 7-11s
usually sold at the counter in colorful little packets labeled something ridiculous like ‘Super Boost’ or ‘Ultimate Energy Pills’. If you’re thinking about taking some of these
just be careful not to over do it
and to avoid other stimulants.

Even ephedra by itself boosts your chances of having heart attacks
especially in people who already have heart trouble or blood pressure issues. The irony is that most people that would want to take ephedra supplements to lose weight are the exact same people who are at the most risk by taking them.

Ephedra supplements used to be a very popular way to promote weight lose in the obese. Like most stimulants
ephedra supplements significantly boost metabolism and lower appetite
so they make an effective and tempting alternative to diet and exercise.

Because of the risks associated with it
ephedra supplements have waned in popularity as diet pills. They’ve been replaced by a host of other ‘natural’ and ‘herbal’ supplements that are every bit as dangerous but just haven’t gotten a bad reputation yet.

Don’t be fooled by the term ‘natural’ or ‘herbal’; these two words are by no means synonymous with ‘healthy’ or ‘safe’. After all
ephedra comes from a 100 percent natural herb
and so do hemlock and nicotine.

Most of the ephedra supplement overdose cases I hear about these days have been in college aged kids taking ‘herbal ecstasy’ concoctions. Herbal ecstasy is basically a combination of epehdra
caffeine
and pseudephedrine
all of which together act synergistically to really put your heart into overdrive.

For many the result is just a lot of sweating and teeth clenching as they go dancing from club to club
but every now and then the cocktail proves too much and causes heart failure.

Ephedra supplements are definitely a risky and unhealthy way to lose weight. While not an especially dangerous drug in itself
mixed with caffeine or other stimulants ephedra can become a serious risk to your health.

Every year there are some reported cases of people who unknowingly overdosed by taking some kind of ephedra supplement and then going on to have coffee
Sudafed
or some combination of other stimulants that put them over the top.

Don t Fear Heart Disease. Take Your Vitamins

Heart disease kills many people every year. One of the risk factors for heart disease is high cholesterol. If you are diagnosed with heart disease
your doctor will undoubtedly prescribe a cholesterol-lowering drug and request that you follow a diet low in cholesterol. Vitamin E naturally keeps cholesterol at a healthy level by limiting the amount of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol that enters the bloodstream. While there are discrepancies in the reports
many studies indicate that it takes as much as 100 milligrams or more of vitamin E for people to experience the benefits. Eating foods
such as eggs
fish
and whole-grain cereals can contribute to the recommended amount. However
you will still need to supplement your diet with vitamins to reach the benefit amount. The good news about vitamin E and heart disease is that vitamin E is not only a preventive measure
but it also can benefit individuals who already have heart disease or who have had bypass surgery.

Including plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet is a good plan for good health. When you do this
you obtain a steady source of antioxidants
such as vitamins E and C. If you are concerned about heart disease
you may want to increase the amount you consume. Vitamin C is present in many foods; however
to obtain benefits related to heart disease
it is recommended that an individual take 500 milligrams each day. This is an extreme amount and is generally recommended for individuals who already have heart-related illnesses or who use cigarettes or other tobacco products on a regular basis.

Niacin (B3) has a twofold benefit when taken on a regular basis. It can lower your triglycerides
a risk factor for both diabetes and heart disease. Niacin also reduces the amount of LDL and increases the amount of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in the bloodstream. While consuming just 2 milligrams of niacin each day can provide protection for heart disease
it is very minute protection. Studies indicate that the best improvement in cardiovascular health by taking niacin is in at least 1000 milligrams. Consuming niacin in this amount can result in your face feeling flushed. This side effect can take place from a few minutes to an hour after taking niacin.

While vitamin supplementation in most cases is harmless
it is a good idea to check with your health care professional before starting to take any vitamins. This is especially important if you have been diagnosed with heart disease or any other health condition.

Does your child need children s vitamins

This question has been has been tormenting parents all over the world. Yet
there are no easy answers to it. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)says that "a diet based on the Food Guide Pyramid provides adequate amounts of all the vitamins a child needs." But then
there are a lot of other factors that decide whether your child is getting adequate amounts of vitamins
such as the child's eating habits
composition and quality of the diets
etc.

One important thing to note here is that the quality of most foods available now has declined. The only good ones available now are organically grown food. Just look at these figures: the amount of calcium in broccoli has fallen by a whopping 50 per cent
the iron content in watercress is down by a steep 88 per cent
the vitamin C in cauliflower has fallen by a huge 40 per cent... You may not be giving your child the usual fare of refined food spiked with sugar and fat and carbohydrates. Yet
there is no guarantee that he or she is getting her required daily dose of children's vitamins.

Still experts disagree much on this subject of children's vitamins. The AAP advises giving your child a vitamin supplement only if your pediatrician recommends it. That is because most of the daily foods are fortified. However
the AAP acknowledges that a daily dose of children's vitamins won't hurt your child unless it exceeds the recommended daily allowance for any vitamin or mineral. Also
such a daily dose of children's vitamins help fill in any gaps in a child's nutrition
and also helps children who are sensitive to certain foods. What is to be borne in mind here is that children's vitamins cannot replace good food. They can only supplement your child's food. If your child is not eating well
you should not only give him children's vitamin supplements but also take steps to improve his eating habits and his diet.

Oh yes
there is one more reason why you should be giving your children a proper diet. Recent research says diet and behavior are interlinked. The Appleton Central Alternative High School replaced vending machines with water coolers and started offering fresh vegetables
fruits
whole-grain bread and a salad bar in place of the hamburgers and french fries. The result: No longer does a police officer patrol the school's hallways
there is no vandalism
there is no litter.

Go for food-based children's vitamins

Now comes the important question. What kind of children's vitamin should you give your child? You should start with a food-based vitamin. No questions about that. Synthetic vitamins are out. Scientists and doctors now prefer to use natural vitamins. This is where glyconutritionals come in. They are foods and nutritional supplements that provide saccharides along with other glycoforms essential to the body. Glyconutritional blends are made from fruits and vegetables and contain the essential vitamins
minerals
and other vital nutrients
and provide support for the body's immune system.

The saccharides in glyconutritionals are necessary for proper 'cell-to-cell' communication and helps keep the body's glands and organs functioning well. They also help the immune system and the endocrine system in top order
and the body in optimal health.

Worried about how you will make your child swallow all those pills? Well
children's vitamins and nutritional supplements now come as delicious
multicolored
flavored
chewable tablets. Your children will eat them up just as they eat up the junk foods and candies!

Does Your Body Need Vitamins

Why bother taking vitamins at all? Our forefathers survived just fine without multi vitamin packs
why can't we? The answer to that question is easy
go look in your cupboards. Our forefathers ate a lot better than we do. High processed
homogenized
pasteurized
canned and prepackaged fast food means less chance of natural occurring vitamins surviving for any length of time.

While some of us pick our own fruit and grow our own vegetables
most of the country chooses to rely on packaged
store bought fruits and veggies. These aren't as healthy as they look
either. The longer the apples and tomatoes are off the vine
the faster they begin to lose their nutritional value
losing vitamins during processing and shipping.

Your body needs vitamins to boost your immune system
ward off colds and other viruses
and even keep you even tempered
so to speak. Did you know with a vitamin deficiency that you are less likely to clot when you cut yourself? Vitamins play a much bigger part then we think
and the average diet does not include all the vitamins necessary to keep the body in top shape.

A good multi-vitamin is your best choice
but here again you can be misled into believing that 100% of the USDA recommended dosage is good enough. They mean 100% total
not 100% of each vitamin necessary. Think about it
they can't possibly pack the right amount of every kind of vitamin that you need into one pill a day
and most multi vitamins sold in your local grocery store are cut with fillers and preservatives. Nope
you'll have to visit your local food co op and get some natural
all inclusive vitamin supplements. Along with eating well
these supplements contain everything you need for balanced vitamin intake
with none of the fillers and preservatives that I
for one
resent paying for.

So let's talk B vitamins as an example. You need several different kinds of B vitamins alone. B6 and B12 are just two
but the most commonly talked about. Vitamin B6 promotes the development of red blood cells
and 12 helps promote energy and fights Alzheimer's disease. You need these and other vitamins to be in the purest form possible in order to be the most beneficial. Let's skip back for a moment
the history of vitamins
if you will. Vitamins began being "discovered" by scientists and surgeons around 1914
and the word "vitamin " comes from the word "vital" as in vital energy for life
but as far back as the 1600's sailors knew to eat citrus fruits to prevent scurvy. It wasn't until later that they knew it as vitamin C.

Now we will skip forward to the future. Many vitamins are now available as liquids. Remember cod liver oil? Well now most vitamins can be taken from a spoon rather than choked down (although if you were one of the kids forced to down cod liver oil
you were choking anyway)
what's more
they taste good now as well.

Now before you get all excited and run out to stock up on each vitamin that you are deficient in
let me remind you that you can
in fact
'overdose' on vitamins
kind of. The water soluble vitamins such as B's and C's will simply be expressed through your urine if you've taken in more than your body needs
but fat soluble vitamins such as D and E can accumulate and cause problems such as diarrhea
nausea
vomiting
and rash.

I recommend contacting a homeopath to test for vitamin deficiencies before you run out and spend a lot on vitamins. Knowing exactly what you need the most and in what daily dosage will save you some money
because again
you really need to purchase each vitamin separately
rather than in a multi-vitamin pill.

Does Creatine Really Help Build Muscle

If you are a gym rat or bodybuilder or simply interested in beginning an exercise program you have probably heard a lot about creatine and the muscle miracles it performs. Unfortunately
most people believe that creatine helps build muscle and it does in a way
but probably not the way you are thinking. The best way to describe creatine is to say that it helps the muscles help themselves build muscle. If that is not clear enough
continue reading.

Creatine does exactly what it claims to do and that is to retain water in your muscles. This is the point of creatine and it really is effective at keeping water in the muscles. Now
what happens is when your muscles are retaining water they are in an optimal state for building new muscle. As a result
when you take creatine and water is retained in your muscles then when you weight train you will get more of an effect because your muscles are better capable of building muscle. After this period you may develop more strength and increased endurance as well. So
if you are taking creatine to help you build muscle and you understand what creatine does and how it helps you build muscle then you will not be disappointed. On the other hand
if you are taking creatine and hoping it will simply grow you bodybuilder’s muscles without putting in the work then you are mistaken.

The best thing to do is begin taking creatine and working out with weights on a regular routine or even with a trainer. By taking the creatine your muscles will be poised to grow and get stronger while building endurance. However
keep in mind you have to put in all the hard work and that all creatine does for you is helps your muscles retain water in order to be in a state where building muscle is easier. Over time you will see your muscles growing and should not see any loss of definition because of the retained water in your muscles. Don’t become confused about creatine building big muscles; it just helps your muscles build themselves stronger and better when you put in the work.

Do You Need to Supplement Your Cat s Diet with Vitamins and Minerals

Monday, 17 August 2009

Despite obvious physiology differences
your cat is not that different from you. Just as humans
cats require vitamins and minerals to survive. Whether or not you need to supplement your cat's diets with vitamins depends largely on their diet and current health status.

The vitamins that cats need include both fat soluble and water-soluble vitamins. These vitamins are essential to a cat's growth and for the efficient processing of fats in the body. These vitamins ensure that a cat's bones are healthy and that they have sufficient protection from disease. Cats are prone to cuts and vitamins can help to repair wounds quickly. Fat-soluble vitamins are vitamins E
D
A
and K. The water-soluble vitamins include the B vitamins (B1
B2
B6
and B12) and vitamin C.

Vitamins are easily absorbed in a cat's system. Minerals
on the other hand
require that the cat's system is healthy for proper absorption. Any slight infection can affect a cat's ability to absorb minerals. The minerals that cats require the most include calcium
magnesium
potassium
and sodium chloride.

The good news about foods for animals is that they are formulated to meet all the nutritional needs of the animal. Feeding your cat food is typically all that is necessary for them to obtain all the nutrients they need. However
there are some things that can affect the amount of nutrients in cat food. For starters
cat food can lose some of its nutritional value. This often happens if the food is kept on a store shelf for a significant amount of time.

If a stray cat has made its way to your doorstep
the condition of the cat may warrant the need for vitamin and mineral supplementation. Stray cats
especially abandoned kittens are susceptible to infections and diseases. The first step you should make when attempting to care for a stray cat is to have a veterinarian inspect the cat for diseases. The veterinarian will give you instructions for caring for the stray cat
including vitamin and mineral supplementation. You should follow the instructions given to you. An excessive amount of a particular vitamin or mineral can cause a toxic reaction in a cat that could be fatal.

Do you have the Symptoms of Folic Acid Deficiency

The debate around the basic of taking dietary supplements is continuing to rage.

While many health care professionals maintain we get all we require from the foods we eat
others prefer to suggest vitamins when their patients are under a stress such as a pregnancy or illness or even aging or when the patients body's function is deficient or overloaded. Others maintain that vitamins are preventative and should be taken routinely to prevent diseases and maintain health.

Studies maintain that taking extra B vitamins
specifically folic acid and B12 have reduced birth defects by 72 to 100% . And since regulations authourising the addition of folic acid to grains have come into force in the USA the incidence of birth defects their have dropped by 19%
although sceptics claim there could be alternative reasons.

So what are some of the symptoms of folic acid deficiency? If your tongue is sore and you suffer from loss of appetite
shortness of puff
are irritable
forgetful and mentally sluggish
you may have a folic acid insufficiency. Folic acid is one of the B group of vitamins and most animal and plant foods are poor sources of it. The exception is liver which most individuals don't eat a lot of these days. Various dietary habits and health conditions can also result in causing a deficiency of this vitamin. Celiac condition
alcoholism and irritable bowel syndrome are three such conditions.

Studies have also suggested that when older people suffer from "the blues" it is caused by a absence of folate (B9) . It should be taken alongside B6 and B12 to support its absorption and function in the body. These three vitamins work closely together and help relieve symptoms of depression. They do this by decreasing the total amount of homocysteine
which is thought to play an major part in causing the depression. Occasionally the amount of folate in proportion to the other two may be required to be increased in order to be effective. Solgar Homocystein Modulators are a good supplement to take and can be found online at www .solgar .co.uk .

Some population-based studies across the USA have also established that numerous cancers are less usual in people who have high levels of folic acid. These people also consumed high amounts of beta-carotene
vitamin C and fiber. One large study of 50
0
women established that adequate intakes of folate essentially reduced the risk of breast melanoma.

Some prescription medications for inflammatory bowel illness have been found to interfere with the bodies ability to absorb folate (folic acid) and the deficiency has also been linked to some men's infertility and heart complaints.

Foods that offer the most folic acid are dark leafy greens
brewers yeast
cows liver
some seafood
orange juice and dairy. Root vegetables and whole grains also supply small amounts.

Side effects from folic acid supplements are rare
though they can occur if the dose exceeds 15000 mcg . Taking any one of the B group of vitamins on their own can produce a deficiency in the others
so don't be too keen to buy without advice. Check out if you really do need it and make sure your health care practised knows your purpose in order to grasp why you want to take these supplements. Some prescription medicines such as antibiotics and warfarin can react adversely to this health programme
while others like ibuprofen and aspirin can actually cause a deficiency. Methotrexate
prescribed to treat some cancer and rheumatoid arthritis conditions increases the body's need for folic acid
and its side-effects are greatly reduced by addition of this vitamin without impairing its results
so if you must take this medication be sure see your health care professional about adding folic acid to your diet - it could save you experiencing further side-effects .
